Vibes, Culture, and Endless Fun!
Island Night 2024: Eternal Utopia – The Magic of Islands was nothing short of spectacular, blending culture, fun, and pure community vibes! Held on Friday, October 11th, it was nearly five hours of non-stop energy with about 500 people enjoying performances, surprises, and spontaneous moments that lit up the night!
The venue was transformed into a colourful tropical paradise, with decorations radiating the island spirit. Each nation was represented by its own bright colours, making the space come alive. The event wasn’t just about fun; it celebrated island cultures, promoted unity, and raised awareness of turtle conservation—all while giving students a platform to proudly showcase their heritage.
The night kicked off with a Futsal Tournament Prize Giving ceremony, where teams from Madagascar, Seychelles, and Mauritius claimed the top three spots. But the real fun was just getting started.
As performances began, the audience was transported by a mix of traditional and modern dance, music, and storytelling. Students from the Maldives, Madagascar, Mauritius, Seychelles, and Sri Lanka brought their unique cultural vibes to the stage, captivating everyone with rich traditions and colourful performances.
Engku Khalish Haziq Bin Engku Ahmad Nasri, a local student pursuing his Bachelor in Banking and Finance (Hons), was clearly impressed. “The performance that night was exhilarating. I was impressed by all of the dancers and the creativity of each nation. My favourite was Maldives, my friend's country, where her group made a play to explain the history of Maldives as well as its culture,” he shared.
The crowd loved how the show blended old-school and modern styles, making them feel like they were travelling the islands without leaving their seats. With vibrant costumes and high-energy performances, the night’s electric atmosphere had everyone reaching for their phones to snap pics. Plus, a beautifully designed backdrop created the perfect photo-op for unforgettable memories with friends and family.
One of the coolest moments? An impromptu dance jam that broke out, and it didn’t matter if you knew the moves—everyone joined in!
Shoutout to the organising committee, led by Anshika Suryavanshini Ramphul from Mauritius, for making it all happen. Not only did they pull off an epic event, but they also raised RM5,000 in sponsorship from PayNet, promoting cashless payments throughout the night. “We handled everything via QR payments—from sales to registrations,” Anshika shared proudly.
To make it even more meaningful, part of the event’s profits went to the Turtle Conservation Society of Malaysia, helping preserve marine life and protect endangered species. This reflected the event’s strong commitment to island ecosystems and environmental awareness.
Island Night 2024 wasn’t just about celebration—it was about giving back, dancing the night away, and creating unforgettable memories. Many attendees called it one of the best Island Nights in years, with incredible performances that will be talked about for a long time!
