An exciting regional milestone! APU’s rise in the AppliedEdu Private University Ranking: ASEAN 2027 celebrates its commitment to educational excellence, technology-driven learning and preparing graduates for professional success.

Asia Pacific University of Technology & Innovation (APU) has climbed three places to rank in the No. 2 position among ASEAN’s private universities in the AppliedEdu Private University Ranking: ASEAN 2027, marking a significant milestone in its journey as a university focused on technology, innovation and career readiness.
The achievement places APU among the region’s top-tier private universities and provides further recognition of its commitment to connecting academic knowledge with practical experience, industry expectations and meaningful opportunities for graduates.
For students, parents, industry partners and the wider APU community, the advancement is a proud affirmation of an educational approach that prepares students to apply their knowledge confidently in a changing world.
Educational Excellence with Real-World Purpose
The AppliedEdu assessment places teaching and learning at its centre, allocating 40% of the overall score to this criterion. Employability accounts for a further 20% for private universities, meaning these two measures together contribute 60% of their assessment.
Students directly inform the results through their perspectives on teaching, facilities and campus life. Research, institutional reputation, community engagement and internationalisation complete the assessment, recognising the wider contributions universities make to students and society.
Public and private universities are assessed separately, with different weightings reflecting their respective missions and institutional contexts.
These priorities align closely with APU’s emphasis on industry-informed learning, collaborative projects and exposure to emerging technologies, helping students develop professional capabilities alongside academic understanding.
Turning Recognition into Opportunity
Datuk Parmjit Singh, Chief Executive Officer and Co-Founder of APU, said:
“Rising three places to become ASEAN’s second-ranked private university is a proud milestone for the entire APU community. It reflects the dedication of our academics and staff, the ambition of our students, and the trust of our industry partners and families.
“For us, educational excellence must translate into opportunity. Every programme, partnership and investment in technology should help students build the knowledge, judgement and confidence to contribute meaningfully in their chosen professions.
“This recognition strengthens our resolve to keep moving forward. Our responsibility is to ensure that an APU education continues to open doors, expand possibilities and prepare graduates to shape the future wherever their careers take them.”
Technology and Career Readiness at the Core
APU’s recognition as a Premier Digital Tech Institution by the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) underlines its focus on developing talent for the digital economy.
Its learning environment includes specialised facilities such as an AI Supercomputing Lab, a CyberSecurity Talent Zone and a Financial Trading Centre. These facilities support opportunities for students to connect classroom concepts with practical applications and explore technologies relevant to professional practice.
The University also reports a consistent 100% graduate employability rate within six months of graduation, reinforcing the importance it places on supporting students’ transition beyond university.
Industry engagement and collaborative learning remain central to this effort, encouraging students to solve problems, communicate effectively and adapt as workplace demands evolve.
A Global Campus, a Regional Milestone
With students from more than 130 countries, APU offers a multicultural learning environment where international perspectives form part of everyday university life.
Working with peers from diverse backgrounds helps students develop cross-cultural understanding, broaden their perspectives and build confidence in collaborating across borders.
The 2027 rankings represent AppliedEdu’s most comprehensive Southeast Asian assessment to date, covering 316 universities across nine ASEAN countries, compared with 237 in the previous edition. More than 100,000 validated student survey responses informed the results, alongside academic peer nominations and verified institutional data.
The results were announced in conjunction with AppliedEduXChange 2026, held on 20 and 21 October at Sunway Square. The event brought together more than 150 university leaders under the theme “Beyond Skills: Building Employable, Industry-Ready Graduates”.
Previously known as AppliedHE, AppliedEdu adopted its new name in September 2026 to reflect a broader scope encompassing technical and vocational education and training, lifelong learning, workforce development and schools.
Building on this milestone, APU will continue strengthening its academic programmes, industry partnerships and student experience, translating educational quality into meaningful opportunities for graduates.
