Virtual Reality (VR) Engineer

Areas of specialisation

  • Provide technical leadership support pertaining to mentoring students, developing innovative VR/AR projects and managing the operations & maintenance of the APU XR Studio.
  • Responsible for managing developments and activity implementation for XR Studio in alignment with the university’s mission and strategic plan to have the XR developments and studio be fully functional by students/staff.
  • Responsible for continuous improvement and enhancements of the VR/AR hardware and software.
  • Creates a dynamic environment that focuses on quality project outputs, fostering institutional public/private partnerships within the VR/AR eco-system, promoting innovation and managing the XR studio.
     

General requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience with any of the following: VR / MR / AR development, 3D file formats (such as FBX, gITF, COLLADA/DAE, OBJ) or character animation (avatar systems, and human representation).
  • Experience with API design and implementation for realtime 3D applications.
  • Experience building and releasing commercial software in C/C++, C# or similar language.
  • Experience with any 3D engines (Unity, Unreal, etc).
  • Experience in any of the following: developing 3D pipelines processing models (scenes, textures, materials and animation), developing software within the game development process or experience building interactive real-time 3D products.
