Personal Branding Workshop Empowers Indonesian Students in the Digital Age

Ms Harjinder Kaur (Senior Lecturer, School of Marketing and Management at Asia Pacific University of Technology & Innovation) conducted an insightful workshop titled “Building a Solid Personal Branding in the Digital World” at Aston Batam Hotel & Residences in Indonesia on 4th May 2024.

The workshop was a key feature of the Study Abroad Expo hosted by Education Republic Indonesia, empowering Indonesian students with vital skills to build a robust personal brand.



The workshop offered invaluable insights and practical strategies for effectively establishing and nurturing a compelling personal brand online, equipping students with essential tools for digital success.

Additionally, it highlighted Asia Pacific University of Technology & Innovation (APU)’s influential presence in the market, encouraging students to consider it for higher education, while emphasising the essential elements of strategic planning, dedication, and authenticity in building a robust personal brand.



The strategies outlined by Ms Harjinder, which are crucial in the digital age, where online presence is key for career advancement, credibility, networking, personal growth, and adapting to digital trends:

  2. Setting clear goals
  3. Maintaining a consistent online presence
  4. Generating quality content
  5. Leveraging social media effectively

Ms Harjinder emphasised that establishing a robust personal brand in the digital world has the potential to inspire, educate, and unite individuals, thereby fostering a vibrant and supportive community.

The workshop featured self-reflective group discussions to deepen understanding of personal branding, fostering a supportive environment for sharing insights and learning together, while equipping students with essential skills and knowledge to enhance their career prospects and lay a foundation for long-term success and personal fulfilment.

Throughout the workshop, students engaged in guessing famous brand slogans, debating the significance of personal branding, reflecting on their strengths and aspirations, and actively sharing insights.

Moreover, the workshop included online quizzes, highlighting students’ active engagement and interest in the topics discussed.

Additionally, the dynamic Q&A session showcased the students’ genuine enthusiasm and eagerness for learning.

At the end of the workshop, Ms Harjinder awarded tokens to students who actively participated during the Q&A session, recognising their enthusiasm and engagement.


Mr Clarence, Regional Representative (Indonesia) for Student Services at APU, commended the event’s remarkable success, citing the impressive turnout and sustained student engagement throughout.

He underscored the significance of such gatherings in bolstering APU’s standing and influence within the Indonesian market, emphasising their role in fostering meaningful connections and promoting the university’s offerings.

Assoc Prof Dr Devinder Kaur (Head, School of Marketing and Management at APU) highlighted the dual advantage of such opportunities for both student and staff development.

She emphasised that the collaboration between Student Services and the academic schools represents a significant initiative in enhancing APU’s personal branding efforts, fostering a cohesive and impactful presence both locally and internationally, thereby enriching the university’s global reputation.


In her reflections on the workshop, she highlighted that building a strong personal brand in the digital world not only benefits individuals but also fosters inspiration, enhances community engagement and creates social impact.

“This ultimately contributes to a more connected, supportive, and thriving community environment,” she said.
