Academic Research and Writing Techniques

The second type of part time course that we have available is a specially tailored programme to meet the demands of college level academic writing and research skills. This programme will employ an interactive-student-centred mode of delivery along with a process-oriented approach to help course participants develop and improve their academic writing and research skills. This course requires you to attend evening classes.

Upon completing this course, you will be able to:

• Understand paragraph and essay organisation
• Understand various patterns of essay organisation
• Support ideas with specific and factual details
• Use quotation, paraphrases and summaries to quote the work others
• Understand academic in-text citation and referencing to avoid committing plagiarism
• Understand and use different types of sentence patterns to create a smooth flow in writing
• Understand common and regular sentence errors to achieve clarity in writing
